Tools to enable your organisation to promote sustainability and accessibility

It is widely accepted that accessibility is one of the ultimate aims of transport. Making communities accessible to all, regardless of ability, age or mode of travel, and in an environmentally responsible way, is one of the greatest challenges facing transport professionals. TRL have an expanding range of software dedicated to environment and sustainability issues.

CarShare Online allows staff at an organisation who are willing to share car trips to contact others who live near to them and wish to travel at the same time.  It also pairs up people who walk or cycle to work. It works automatically by using company e-mail, which ensures security for those using the system. The software has user-friendly interfacing and uses Google™ mapping to locate potential sharers, and can be seamlessly branded to the same look and feel as a company intranet site.

PERS (Pedestrian Environment Review Software) is a new and dynamic software application to assess the quality of any pedestrian environment. PERS can assist in the identification of opportunities to improve pedestrian walking routes, whilst supporting the effective targeting of resources. Its systematic framework allows pedestrian provision to be assessed, reviewed and audited through the use of innovative and highly successful methods.

Environmental issues are also addressed in the following products:

TRANSYT 12 includes an option to calculate emissions of pollutants (carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrous oxides and particulate matter) by vehicles in the network. Emissions are dependent on the weight of traffic, its mean spead and the proportion of stops experienced by traffic.

STM and TPM show emissions in their results. Emissions can be disaggregated by mode, purpose and zone.
