Aids in reducing accident casualties and improving safety
Cutting casualty rates and making roads safer is a priority for local and national governments around the world. Accident rates in the UK have continued to decline over recent decades, thanks to a combination of high publicity campaigns and a wide variety of safety improvement schemes across all scales of the road network. However, the Government's latest Casualty Reduction Targets serve to highlight that preventing accidents will continue to be an important priority.
TRL's accident related software is applicable both to the UK, to improve existing schemes and to identify deficiencies, and to countries where accident prevention schemes are perhaps only in their early years.
MAAP is a sophisticated and comprehensive accident recording and analysis package. Used by authorities throughout the UK and internationally, it provides tools to store and analyse accident causation factors, geographical spread (via its built-in GIS tools) and a range of other data types.
Accident models are also included in the following products:
ARCADY: calculates accident rates and accident types at roundabouts and mini-roundabouts, based on traffic demand and roundabout geometry.
PICADY: calculates accident rates and accident types at unsignalised priority intersections (T-junctions, crossroads and staggered junctions, each of which can be in a rural or urban setting), based on traffic demand and junction geometry.
OSCADY: calculates accident rates and accident types at isolated signalised junctions (T-junctions, crossroads and staggered junctions), based on traffic demand, junction geometry and signal properties.
COBA and QUADRO include modules to calculate accident rates, and the costs of accidents in economic terms.
